Principal's Greeting
August 27, 2012
Dear Arborland parents and faculty:
As we celebrate Arborland’s 25th anniversary this year, my heart is filled with gratitude, pride and humility. There are so many people contributing to our success today; our ambassadors, who continually spread the good word about Arborland; our alumni, who are excellent role models for other young people; our parents, who whole-heartedly offer their support for the school; and most of all, our dedicated and hard-working faculty. We are very proud that the majority of our faculty has been with us for more than ten years - some have even been with us for more than twenty years! I have had the privilege of watching these young professionals form families, raise children, while still continuing their passion of educating children. So many parents have trusted Arborland for their children’s education, and so many teachers have devoted their career to Arborland. For all of this, I thank each one with deep sincerity.
A very important part of Montessori education is to inculcate a deep love for learning. It is for this reason that we do not have letter grades. We do not want students to merely study for grades; Arborland students are expected to do their best at all times for they know that a job well done is a reward in itself. If we constantly work hard and do our best, happiness and success will naturally come our way. We also realize that parents need a marker to see how their child is doing. In the absence of a weekly/monthly letter grade, some parents, who are too busy to maintain regular communication with the teacher, do sometimes get frustrated. This year, we are introducing a monthly progress report that will be emailed to you, the parents, on the last Friday of each month. This report will convey how the child is doing in the core curriculum subjects, and the purpose is purely parent/teacher communication. Parents are requested to make comments on the report and email or sign the report and return it to the teacher. Your classroom teacher will provide more details during the upcoming Parent’s Night. My request is for parents to send an email to your child’s teacher today so that your child’s teacher has both parents’ email addresses for better communication.
We have also installed mobile unlock devices on both of our Valencia and Hughes Campuses. During the busy drop off and pick up hours, the gate/door will be unlocked for your convenience. If you are coming to school late or need to pick up your child early, the gate/door may be locked. Please call Valencia office at (714) 871-2311 and Hughes office at (714) 871-3111 for us to unlock the gate/door for you. You are welcome to add our school’s phone number on your cell phone contact list.
It is with great excitement that I welcome all our students, parents and faculty to Arborland in our 25th year! I look forward to another year of enhanced learning experiences and celebration with you.
With sincerity,
Dr. Sueling Chen Principal
Dear Parents,
Welcome to another wonderful school year!
As principal, it has always been my pleasure to welcome children and parents to a new school year for over twenty-three years. I am filled with excitement and an amazing feeling of anticipation when this time rolls around! The education of young minds, and being involved in the preparation of our future leaders, is a very rewarding and unique experience, and this is what fuels my continuous sense of wonder and joy. ...
...In an effort to go green and save trees, we intend to eliminate paper notices as much as possible. All information will be sent to you via email, and will be posted on our website and school bulletin board.
