The most important goal of the cultural area of studies in a Montessori classroom is for the child to discover his own place and purpose in our vast universe. Cultural studies give the children opportunities to develop skills, knowledge, and positive attitude for understanding and accepting themselves and others in world society. The child is exposed to all areas of life so that the cosmic view of the whole world can be achieved. The area of cultural studies in the Montessori prepared environment draws from physical and social sciences, arts and humanities to integrate experiences throughout the familiar world of the classroom. Activities are designed to expand the child's world and inspire interests which encourage discoveries according to each child's own personality. Opportunities begin with experiencing real things and eventually grow to a broader hierarchy of learning.
