“If I Were President…”

Celebrating Presidents’ Day

Presidents’ Day is an American holiday celebrated on the third Monday in February. Though it was originally established as “Washington’s Birthday”, which was February 22nd, it was moved to a Monday in order for the nation’s workers to have a three-day weekend, as part of 1971’s Uniform Monday Holiday Act. Presidents’ Day is now popularly viewed as a day to celebrate all U.S. presidents past and present.

We all know that the job of President of the United States comes with a lot of responsibility and hard work. Students at Arborland have lots of ideas of what they would do if they were President:

“If I were President, I would pass a law saying that kids would be able to vote. I would also make everything under $1 (except airplane flights, $3) so that my mom doesn’t complain about not having enough money. If I were President, I would also say that whoever complains about how I work as President, they will go to court and I would sue them.” -Olivia K., age 9
“If I were President, I would send people into space with ginormous bags of frosting and candy. Astronauts could make a candy planet for people to go to space for vacation. I would plant more trees and flowers to make our world more colorful. As president, I would travel to poor countries and drop off money, clothes, toys, and food to people in need. I would travel to Mexico and build houses for people in need. I would also take care of my sister, mommy and daddy.” -Oli O., age 7

“If I was President, I would help people and respect others. I would have a law that everyone has to be nice and kind to each other. Everyone on my staff would have to make the time to help others.” -Jolie M., age 5

“If I were President, I would lower taxes. I would also lower the price of cars. I will promote compressed natural gas and electric cars because they help our environment. I will not allow self-driving cars until proven safe in every scenario (I’m looking at you, Tesla).” -Matthew A., age 12
“I would help people and make good rules. I would make a rule that you must share and make new friends.” -Catherine L., age 6

“If I were President, I would work hard for my country. I would tell the truth and protect people. Being President would make me rich so I would share 1 trillion dollars with everyone. I think I would love living in the White House.” -Eugene L., age 9

“If I were President, I would create a law that certain animals cannot be hunted. I would get rid of bad drugs. I’d make a law that people have to use solar panel cars. I would create laws that could help the earth, then we’ll have a better place!” -Claire O., age 9
“If I were President, I would make a rule that people should always treat people how you want them to treat you.” -Rebecca L., age 7
