Around the World with Arborland’s International Culture Day
FULLERTON, CA - Arborland Montessori Children’s Academy is holding its annual International Culture Day on April 4, 2013 for the Valencia Campus, and April 5, 2013 for the Hughes Campus. The celebration will be from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, and is open to everyone in the community.
The event starts off with a program featuring performances of traditional songs and dances from all over the world. Following that, a potluck lunch will be held at every classroom, headlining dishes from different regions. Guests can then visit all the classrooms, which are richly decorated according to the respective cultures they are representing, and fill up their “passports.” Once completed, attendees can head over to the UN booth to get wonderful prizes!
International Culture Day (ICD) is the yearly celebration of the different cultures of the world at Arborland. Before the day itself, students get to explore the wonders of a specific continent assigned to the class throughout the school year. This, in turn, gives them a more intimate knowledge of the area. Then, the teachers will choose a traditional dance or song from a country of that region to perform on ICD. It is an event that is well-received and well-loved by children and parents alike.
Arborland is proud to be a place where many people from different backgrounds can come together to work and study. Dr. Maria Montessori believed that we are all citizens of the world, and we gain a better understanding of the world and its peoples by sharing and celebrating our cultures.
Arborland Montessori Children’s Academy is a private school serving families in Fullerton and neighboring cities. Children from 18 months until the sixth grade enjoy the personalized curriculum, nurturing environment, and the excellent faculty at Arborland.

Alumni Homecoming at Arborland Montessori
FULLERTON, CA – Arborland Montessori Children’s Academy held an Alumni Homecoming last Saturday, December 22, 2012, starting at 12 noon. The event was held at the Arborland Academy of the Arts on Hughes Drive.
Twenty-five years’ worth of alumni gathered together and reminisced about their formative and fun moments at Arborland. Dozens of former students came from all over the country to share their successes with their beloved childhood mentors.
These reunions are a joy not only for the students, but also for the teachers. “It is reaffirming as a teacher to see your former students grow into accomplished adults,” said Kandy Weidman, Arborland dance teacher for almost two decades. “It feels good,” Weidman added, “to think, ‘I may have had a hand in their success’!”
The afternoon was filled with nostalgia and pride, as teachers and students walk down memory lane hand-in-hand.
Arborland Montessori was first established in 1988, with the campus on Valencia Drive. From the humble beginnings of one classroom and seven children, Arborland flourished into two Montessori campuses, and the Academy of the Arts.

Arborland Celebrates 25 Years with an Ode to Children’s Literature
FULLERTON, CA – Arborland Montessori Children’s Academy is celebrating its 25th anniversary this school year, and to commemorate these wonderful years of educational excellence, the school dedicated its Winter Recital to a variety of children’s literature. The event was held last Wednesday, December 12, 2012, at the Plummer Auditorium.
The recital is composed of different performances by each of the classes from both the primary and elementary levels. Childhood favorites like Brown Bear, Alice in Wonderland, and Peter Pan were acted out and presented by the children. The event was very well enjoyed by not only the audience, but also by the children.
The theme of children’s literature was handpicked by the school’s principal and founder, Dr. Sueling Chen. “Words are very powerful,” Chen said, “we are celebrating the magic of words and how they make every day special.” Every word has a meaning, and that is why people should be selective in the words they use. “Drama,” according to Chen, “is a great way for children to practice self-expression and to realize its value.”
Arborland Montessori Children’s Academy first opened its doors in 1988 at Valencia Drive in Fullerton. The school started off with seven children in one classroom. After 25 fruitful years, Arborland has expanded to two Montessori campuses, with both primary and elementary levels, and the Academy of the Arts.
The Winter Recital is an annual celebration that features the children’s wonderful talents, the themes vary with every year. For more information about this and other Arborland events, please call (714) 871-3111 or visit www.arborland.com.
