A Blast to the Past

By Adam Z. - 4th Grade

Professor Hooch was at the Volcanic Science Lab. Gaby came in and said, “Watcha doing, Professor?”

Professor Hooch replied, “Hand me that piece of magma. This might be the potion to cause immortality.”

Then William came in, slammed his mallet on the table which caused the glass tube to break, and said, ”Watcha doing Professor?”

“WILLIAM!” The professor roared, red in the face. “You just ruined our chance for immortality. I should have you fired!”

William goes behind the professor and says, “Why you...” and angrily swings his mallet trying to hit the professor.

Professor Hooch ducks and says, “What am I going to do with that kid?”

Then William goes to his office. He has been working on a science project to enter a science program. Willliam gets so mad he throws his mallet at his invention, a time machine. 5 minutes later William goes to pick up the mallet. He reaches into the time machine and it wasn't there.

William rushes to the professor.

William says, “I have to tell the professor...” He ran so fast he couldn't speak. William said, “Pro-pro-professor, I have to show you something.”

“WHAT!” hissed the professor.

William said “My time machine worked.”

When the professor heard this he ran as fast as a cheetah and William followed. Finally they got to Williams office.

"Where is it?” said the professor.

“The time machine is over there in the corner ,” William said.

“How do you know it works?” the professor asked.

“I threw my mallet in there and when I went to reach for it, it was gone," said William. Both of them looked at each other for some time and searched the machine. Then Willam said, “I got it, the rubber in the mallet caused a reaction with the acid in the machine."

The professor said, "Let’s time travel.”

”How?!“ said William.

“Grab all the rubber you can, that will help us time travel!” yelled the professor. When they got back they had a pound of rubber.

“Let's go to Pompeii,” said William.

“NO, NO, NO,” said the professor. “That's where Mount Vesuvius destroyed Pompeii.”

“So, let's go see it happen,” William said in excitement.

“Fine...” mumbled the professor. They grabbed all the rubber and wrapped it around them. Then they stepped into the time machine that took them straight to Pompeii city. The ground rumbled and the mountain blew up rocks when a citizen said “RUN!” The town ran in fear. We ran towards the time machine, but lava had gotten on it.

“NO!” yelled the professor. “It’s too late.” William cried as he felt the hot air on him. The machine boiled in lava and evaporated into thin

air. Everyone felt the dust in their faces.

One of the villagers said, “What was that?”

“It's a time machine,” William said.

“A what?” said one of the villagers.

“It’s what helped us travel back in time to Pompeii. We live 2,000 years after this happened. We don't live in 79AD, we live in 2010. We found out my time machine works, so we decided to give it a try. By the way, is there Chipotle here?” William said.

“Huh?” said all the villagers. “ Anyway, we need to help you guys make a time machine, but how?”

Then another villager said, “We have gears and planks you can work with. Will that work?”

“That will do,” William said.

William, the professor, and the villagers began working on the time machine.

“We need heat and rubber,” said one of the villagers. Another villager pointed to the lava.

Pompeii worked together and found rubber from all over the place. They also grabbed all the metal they could find and made a small room that produces electricity for the time machine. This was the only way it could send us back to the future. The machine is so powerful it only works once.

One of the villagers grabbed a stick and dunked it in the lava, then threw it on a bucket of oil. The machine fired on. Willam said, “I will never forget you all.” Woosh. They landed in 2010.

“Finally safe and sound. Let’s never do that again,” said the professor

“Good idea! What a day. It was so sad they had no Chipotle back

then,” William said.

The Declopedia Disaster

By Adelina G. - 4th Grade

Once upon a time there was a girl who lived in a village with her boyfriend Raphael and her sister Samantha but there was a catch... the girl didn't know her own name!!! The reason

was that on her 6th or 7th birthday, 20 years ago, in 2019 she got Declopedia. (Declopedia is another word for memory loss.) Her name wasn't the only thing that she forgot. She forgot

her favorite TV show, her favorite book to read, her favorite

places to go, people to see, and her favorite things to do.

Click here to read more of Adelina's "The Declopedia Disaster"

One day, Raphael was wandering in the backyard planning out the garden for their home. When he went to dig up a hole to plant a flower, he found a clear glass bottle hidden in the dirt. To his surprise, he found a script inside the bottle. He froze for a moment with excitement and curiosity wondering what could the script possibly have written on it. He was also a bit surprised that he found what seemed to be some sort of treasure. He opened the bottle and pulled out the script and immediately hollered at the girls because he couldn’t believe what he saw.

The girls came running to the backyard asking him,“What’s the problem Raphael?”

Raphael responded and turned to his girlfriend, “I think I found a map to a magical place where you could cure your Declopedia!” They both stood in shock.

Samantha said, “Well where does the map lead to?” Raphael replied, “It seems that it leads to a forest with a magical kitten?”

Could it be true that they were there standing in the presence of the key to changing her life? How, after 20 years of such a disease where one completely forgets their identity, could they now find the answers to what they imagined would never come true.

They quickly pack their things in a bag small enough to carry on their back and start their journey by foot to the magical forest. They all go together. They follow the map to

the entrance of the forest and see a path of creepy plants that seem to be alive.

Samantha screams, “There’s faces on the plants, how will we survive this scary path?”

Raphael replies, “Come on, it’s probably just a silly face a kinder-gartener drew on them.”

Raphael walks through the entrance and up to one of the brown plants. The plant towers over him and starts speaking in a very spooky voice, “To enter you have to complete the challenges that we give you.” Raphael screams in terror.

He turns to Samantha and says, “Yep, they’re definitely alive.”

Samantha asked the plants, “What challenges do we have to complete?”

The plant replied, “There are three challenges that you

have to complete before you get to your final destination.

Once you are at your final destination your route guidance will

be complete. Pay attention because I will only tell you the

challenges once.”

The plant next to that one continued, “The first challenge requires you to work together. You have to climb up the tallest tree and grab the bumberry fruit. You shall return the bumberry fruit to me and then receive your next challenge.”

They quickly run off to retrieve the bumberry.

Raphael says, “I’m the strongest and tallest here. I can do this by myself.” So he climbed up the tree, but unfortunately fell down. Thankfully there was cushioning and he didn’t get hurt.

After he fell, Samantha said, “I can do it all by myself, I’ve been climbing trees for years.” She climbed the tree and unfortunately she fell too!

The girl who forgot her name said, “The flower said we have to work together, not just one by one.” So, the girl climbed on Raphael, Samantha climbed on the girl and they clung to the tree to get the bumberry. They climbed all together to the very top of the tree where the bumberry grew. Raphael grabbed the bumberry and they all slid down safely. They quickly ran back to the plant at the entrance of the forest and delivered the bumperry.

The plant nearby turned and said, “The next challenge, you have to be patient with each other. I will give you an egg and you have to carefully pass it to each other through the sideways obstacle course. You can fail as many times as you need but there’s a catch. Everytime you fail, you will lose a life for your third challenge and you need all of your lives to complete the third challenge. When you finish the challenge and complete the sideways obstacle course then you will meet the plant at the end of the forest and it will give you the

third challenge.”

They ran off to complete the second challenge. Thankfully they have done these kinds of obstacles before in their village. So quickly but carefully they took the egg through the obstacle and worked together as a team to make it through without failing. They did it so fast before you could even say the word “binoculars.” Gosh they were so relieved that they were able to complete the second challenge with such ease.

As they finished the challenge they were greeted by the third plant with the last and final challenge. The third plant said, “your last and final challenge is to walk through the

path.”

Raphael stood and turned to his girlfriend and Samantha with an eerie smirk. “You said that our last challenge is going to be difficult, I’m confused, you just want us to walk down that dark path?”

The plant answered, “YES but there’s a catch. Every time you scream or run back you lose a life. You only have three chances to make it through. But you have to go alone one by one.”

Raphael started first and walked through the dark path. Even though it was a little scary at first, he was fine. But then, he started hearing sounds. The wolves were howling at the full moon. He screamed and ran back to the girls. He said.

“It’s too spooky in there, I can’t cross the path alone.”

The plant replied, “Fine, you can pick one girl to come with you.”

He picked his girlfriend to walk with him in the dark lonely path. Yet again it got even spookier.

They walked slowly through the path and they heard a witch, “Do you want to come in my gingerbread house?”

Suddenly they screamed with terror and ran back. The plant told them, “You have one more life but I’ll give you this...” He handed them a flashlight.

Raphael responded, “What will the flashlight do?”

The plant said, “That is the magical flashlight of the forest, nothing will harm you.”

They turned the flashlight on and walked side by side. It was a pretty peaceful walk, as a matter of fact. They reached the end and the final plant greeted them. He said, “You have

finally reached the end and we have the cure for your Declopedia.”

The girl that forgot her name walks up to the magical kitten that was sitting on a small rock covered in moss. The girl bent down to look at the magical kitten and said, “Please magical kitten help me, help me solve all the problems in my life.” So the kitten put his paw up and the girl pressed her palm into the kitten’s paw and a BEAM OF FLASHING LIGHT

STRUCK HER. She remembered. She remembered her name was Madelina, her favorite book to read, people to see, and places to go. She remembered EVERYTHING.

At last they all journeyed back to the village and lived happilyever after.

The End of New York

By Zoe W. - 4th Grade

New York City, July 7th 6:30 PM 2078

Lucas and his friends were exploring a sewer in New York City. They were just walking in the darkness just for fun. Lucas had a torch (a flash light) as they were walking slowly. When a rat

scurried up to Lucas, his eyes widened with surprise and took a step back.

Lucas said in a shaky voice, “Oh hey little rat dude!

Sorry, if we startled you. I’m glad you're still alive.” He picked up the rat slowly and gently.

Click here to read more of Zoe's "The Mystery of the Unique Treasure"

Georgia asked, “Lucas, are you talking to a rat?! You know they can’t... um... you know they can’t talk or understand you.”

Pete asked, “So anyway, why are we down in the sewer Lucas?”

Georgia added, “Ya, why are down here?”

Lucas answered, “Just a bit more walking then I’ll tell you.”

They walked for at least a mile!

“Uhh, Lucas, we've been walking for an hour already,” said Georgia.

“We’re almost there. Ugh!” said Lucas, exhausted. Ten minutes later they arrived at their destination.

“Finally we’re here,” said Lucas excitedly.

Pete argued, “Lucas, you dummy! You lead us to wall!”

Lucas answered, “Hey! It's not just a simple wall, it's actually a curtain.”

Georgia asked, “And why do you have a curtain down in the sewer, and why does it look like a stone brick wall?”

“We’ll see about that!” exclaimed Lucas. As he opened the curtain a bright but twitchy light shined on the mysterious lair. It looked like a pet shop, full of reptiles, mammals, and amphibians.

New York City, July 7th 8:00PM 2078

The New Lair

“This would be our new place to hang. We can talk, play games, and keep the animals safe since there’s not many left in the world,” Lucas announced. (Jim is a rare type of squirrel, because in that time period almost every animal is extinct.)

“Hey, stop that Jim! I told you already you're not supposed to climb on the power generator. Remember last time you climbed on that you turned the lights off, you silly old squirrel," Lucas scolded the animal.

Georgia whispered, "Hey Pete, I think Lucas went crazy! Doesn’t he know the animals don’t understand him?”

Pete added, “Ya, I totally agree. I think he needs a therapist.”

Georgia hesitantly responded, “Um, Lucas, I think it's getting a bit late, so we should be heading to bed. Am I right, Pete?” as she elbowed him.

Luckily, Pete finally agreed with her idea, so he nodded and followed the group.

New York City, July 8th 12:30 PM 2078

Someone has to tell Lucas

The kids met back at the sewers the next day to talk in privacy. “So, um... Lucas, me and Pete want to tell you something,” Georgia said nervously.

“Ya, late last night I was acting really weird, but I’m better now,” said Lucas.

“Ya, about that,” said Georgia, as she nudged Pete.

Pete said nervously, “Um, ya... we need to talk.”

All of a sudden, a huge earthquake happened. The huge earthquake sounded like an enormous snore. The sewer’s wall started cracking and animals were screeching on top of their lungs. Some were flying, some even hopping.

“Everybody out now!” screamed Lucas. Everyone ran out of there as fast as they could.

New York City, July 8th, 1:30 Pm 2078

Meet the New Villan

When they came out of the sewers, everybody was running toward the harbor. “Whoa! Where is everybody going?” asked Pete.

The anonymous woman answered, “Away from the big scary robot! Where else would we go huh! Huh! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! He is coming for all of us!”

“I think she’s just a scaredy cat,” said Pete.

“No Pete, they're running from that huge robot,” Georgia warned.

“Muahahahaha! Hello N.Y.C! I am Dr. Evil and I bring pain to you all. Hehe! Unless someone is brave enough to stop me. Oh wait you're all running away.” he said.

All of a sudden W.A.R.M came. (W.A.R.M stands for World Army Force Military.)

“What should we do?” asked Lucas in his mind. “Ah ha! I know! I got a plan," Lucas said. He said in confidence

“Well say it already,” exclaimed Georgia!

“Okay Georgia and Pete you’ll hack the robot’s system, and me, I’ll stay here to make sure W.A.R.M is a good distraction,”

Lucas answered.

New York City,July 8th,2:00PM

The Battle Begins

“So um... Lucas, plan to get up there?” asked Pete.

Lucas responded, “Don’t worry I brought a rope and a harness.”

They were talking about their plan when all of a sudden, W.A.R.M got their butts kicked, literally. W.A.R.M used many weapons and planes, but Dr. Evil had strong armor and a super laser cannon.

“Hey Georgia, do you know any possible way to stop that thing?” asked Luke.

“Well I do have one idea, but that plan requires me to go up there and somehow hack it or make it explode,” Georgia replied.

As soon as Pete and Georgia found a hiding spot in a barrel, Lucas somehow was able to talk to the animals! His dad was a god. One of his father’s powers was talking to animals. They were just amazed, although they didn’t understand him or what he was saying to the animals. Lucas was telling the animals to distract the robot so Georgia and Pete could sneak over to the robot and climb it.

As Pete said surprisingly, “Wow, he's actually talking to them!”

Georgia said angrily,” Why didn’t he tell us that he has super powers? Aren’t we his best friends, so why didn’t he tell us? Also what is he hiding from us, and should we be hanging out anymore?”

“Ya! Something is fishy going on around here," said Pete.

“Finally something we can agree on,"said Georgia.

“No, literally something smells,” replied Pete.

“Maybe it smells because we're hiding behind a fish barrel,”she replied angrily.

About 10 minutes later they decided to start climbing the robot since the animals were strong enough to push it over. So it took them about 20 minutes to climb the robot and then it took them 5 minutes to take the control panel. Georgia was messing with the controls of the panel to figure out how to make the robot explode.

Lucas convinced Jim the squirrel to climb to the rope and help Georgia figure out how to make the robot explode. Luckily Jim was able to snap the right cord on the control panel to make an explosion with a huge loud BOOM! And KA-BLOOWE!!!

Unfortunately Jim lost his life helping his friends, but Pete and Georgia barely made it out because they almost got crushed by the huge robot. Lucas gave his friends a big hug when they returned to safety. Sadly, many people died to stop Dr. Evil.

Luckily he won’t be out of prison for a long long long time.

The Mystery of the Unique Treasure

By Amber Z. - 4th Grade

3 kids were playing outside whose names were Kayla, Chyler, and Gavin. They were in Gavin's backyard playing. Gavin has a tree house in his backyard, so they would always go to his house and play in his tree house.

“Hey, do you guys wanna go down to the creek for a swim?”asked Gavin.

“Duhhhhhhhh,” says Kayla and Chyler. It was summer, and it was

hot, so of course they wanted to go to the creek for a swim. The creek

was quiet and a calm place where you would hear birds chirp, and the

air was cool and fresh.

Click here to read more of Amber's "The Mystery of the Unique Treasure"

“Alright, let's go then!” said Gavin

As they walked down the road to the creek, Chyler noticed something. She noticed a very shiny object. “Hey, guys, come look at this,” said Chyler.

“What is it, Chyler?” asked Kayla.

“I think I found something that's very shiny, and look there is another one!” said Chyler.

“I think there is a trail of these gems that we are finding. Should we follow the gems?” asked Kayla.

“Of course, because these gems might lead us to a grand treasure!” said Gavin. As they followed the gems, they came to the creek.

“What do we do here now?” asked Chyler.

“I don't know, I think we are going to have to figure it out now, but while we think of what we should do, we can swim for a bit!” said Kayla.

“I LOVE THAT IDEA!” said Chyler and Gavin.

As they walked back to Gavin's house to get their swimsuits, Kayla thought, "Why were the gems scattered all over the floor. Did people leave them there, or were they about to find the grand treasure, like what Gavin said?”

“Hold up, guys!” shouted Kayla. When they finished changing, Kayla told them what she was thinking on the way here.

“Hmmmmmmm, I think we have to dive into the water,” said Gavin.

“Well, do you have swimming paddles and swimming fins, so we can dive into the water?” asked Chyler.

“Of course, I do, we literally have a creek near us!” said Jason

As they went to grab the swimming fins and paddles, Kayla thought about what they would see under the water. Will they see a cave? Crystals? Or maybe even a treasure chest? Kayla thought that they would see something magical.

As they put on the paddles and fins, they discussed what they should do. They only had limited air, so this was going to be hard to breathe and to find. The water was murky and full of dirt.

“Okay, how should we do this?” said Gavin.

“Should we wait for some time and save money for 3 oxygen tanks, so we won’t have only a little air?” asked Chyler.

“I think that is a great idea!” said Kayla.

“Okay, then we'll come back and meet again in 2 months,” said Kayla.

“That sounds good to me!” said Gavin proudly.

2 Months Later

After 2 months, they finally saved up for 3 oxygen tanks. Kayla called Chyler and Gavin if they have saved up, and they also said they have saved up for oxygen tanks. When they met at the creek, they put on their oxygen tanks.

“Okay, now that we have our oxygen tanks, what should we do underwater?” asked Gavin.

“Let's just dive down there for a bit to get used to the water and search, then once we come back up to take a break, we go on the real hunt for the cave underneath the water!” said Chyler.

“Let's do that, I think that is the best idea yet!” said Kayla. As they went into the water, it was murky, and there was a lot of dirty stuff in it. Kayla, Chyler, and Gavin looked and looked. They even felt the floor of the creek. After an hour of searching, they came back up.

“UGGGGGG! There's nothing down there. We will never find a way to find the cave because of the murky water!” said Gavi.

“Hmmmmm, maybe we can ask the mayor to help us clear the water in the creek to make it easier to see!” said Kayla.

“I think we should do that!” said Chyler.

As they walked to the mayor, they were scared to ask for such a weird thing. When they arrived, they asked the mayor. “Can you please clean out the water for the creek. If you can’t, then it’s fine because you are the mayor, so you are very busy," said Chyler.

“Of course, children, because you were so kind and generous, I will do that just because of your manners," said the mayor.

“Yay, thank you very much!” said Gavin gladly.

After weeks and weeks, the creek was finally clear. It was easier to see things. And they even added fish and sea creatures, but they were not too big and scary.

When they heard the news, Gavin, Chyler, and Kayla went to Gavin's house to get their oxygen tanks and ran back to the creek to find the gems. “Okay, now this is a lot easier this time,” said Chyler. “This whole process for the crystal mystery is taking a long time. I

think now this might be the hard part,” said Kayla.

When they dove into the water, it was like they were in a dream. They felt like they were in Hawaii, swimming with sea creatures. The water temperature was just right, and beams of sunlight shone through the tree branches, making the water warm and cozy.

They searched and searched until Kayla had found a trail of gemstones underwater in the water! “Guys, look what I found!” said Kayla.

“What is it?” asked Gavin.

“It's a trail of the same gemstones that Chyler found, but underwater!” said Kayla.

“Why wait? Let's follow it!” said Chyler.

As they followed it, they came across the CRYSTAL CAVE!

“GUYS, WE FOUND IT FINALLY!” said Kayla, very surprised. “YAY, I GUESS ALL THAT HARD WORK DID PAY OFF!” exclaimed Gavin happily.

When they entered the cave, they came upon an underwater garden. “Wow, this looks so pretty,” said Chyler. The leaves and the vines were a dark green sea color. It was an amazing sight. As they floated around looking at it, they started to think that this was imaginable. There were gems on the walls of the cave and pink flowers blooming on the vines. The gems were sparkly and neon pink, blue, and purple. “Wow, this feels like a dream and feels like really cozy vibes!” said Kayla softly. Once they stopped looking at the garden, they kept following the path to find the treasure chest. The walls of the path

were made of art pictures of vines following against the wall.

Once the path stopped, they came upon a library. “Wow, I never wanna leave this place,” said Jason calmly. The library was filled with light-colored books. It was relaxing because they could hear calming music playing. Once they finished looking around, they came to this treasure chest.

“I THINK WE FOUND OUR PRIZE,” said Kayla excitedly.

“Wait, before we open it, I don't think we should. It doesn't belong to you. It might be nature's or someone else’s. I think it’s best if we keep it like this. We can always tell the mayor that we found this and share it with other people,” said Chyler.

“I agree with Chyler, it doesn't belong to us, so why should we take it?” said Jason.

“Okay, I am sorry for trying to take it,” said Kayla nicely.

Once they found their way out, they kept their oxygen tanks at Jason's house and told the mayor to share the news about the crystal cave and that everyone could use their oxygen tanks to dive down and see the amazing sight that Jason, Chyler, and Kayla had found.

“Make sure nobody takes the gems in the chest, okay?” said Jason seriously.

“Of course we will, Jason. And thanks for this amazing sight that you and your friends have found,” said the Mayor proudly.

After their discovery, everyone came to the creek. It was open once a week because Jason, Chyler, and Kayla had school, and they also had to teach them how to use the

oxygen tanks. Only kids above 12 could use the oxygen tanks, so it would be safe. It was open every Saturday, and then it became an attraction because it was very famous.

People who came and left always gave a 5-star review to tell about how

good their time at the attraction was. As it got bigger and bigger, many

people started giving money and tips. This was a great experience for

Jason, Chyler, and Kayla.
