At this year’s Costume Party, our staff embraced the safari theme, bringing our theme, “Guiding Young Minds,” to life. Like explorers discovering the world around them, children approach each day with curiosity, wonder, and a desire to learn. As Montessori educators, we are grateful for the opportunity to guide them along the way, encouraging them to explore their interests, discover their abilities, and grow with confidence. During an initial school tour, families often get a view of the classroom environment, but it is not until a child is enrolled that the bigger picture unfolds. We begin to see their confidence bloom and their capabilities grow in ways that are sometimes surprising.

Let’s take a closer look inside our classrooms and celebrate the many stages of growth.

Infants & Toddlers: Building the Foundation

The earliest years of a child's life are filled with growth and discovery. Through everyday experiences, meaningful interactions, and opportunities to explore, children begin developing the foundational skills that support future learning. Every milestone, big or small, is worth celebrating, and our teachers play an important role in nurturing each child's development while encouraging curiosity, confidence, and readiness for the exciting stages ahead.

Primary: Developing Independence

In primary classrooms, children put foundational skills into practice, developing concentration and problem-solving skills through hands-on materials and meaningful discoveries.

Collaboration becomes an integral part of the primary classroom. Classmates often work alongside one another, as older students can teach their younger peers and participate together in yearly performances. The child discovers the value of community while making connections between classroom learning and the world around them.

Elementary: Questioning, Exploring & Connecting with the Real World

Curiosity expands in our 6-12 year olds during their elementary years. They begin asking bigger questions, exploring new ideas, and making connections beyond the classroom.

From research projects in spring for International Culture Day to Science Fair discoveries, students have the opportunity to investigate and collaborate.

During our recital seasons, our older elementary students will also step into leadership opportunities, including taking the stage as emcees and developing confidence through public speaking.

Junior High: Becoming Leaders

One of the greatest joys is watching our students grow from toddlers into confident young adults. During the adolescent years in Junior High, our students strengthen their voices, develop critical thinking skills, and take greater ownership of their learning

Through Speech and Debate, the opportunity to choose their own electives (such as this semester’s 3D Design), service learning, and the planning of leadership exhibits, 7th and 8th grade students explore their interests while building essential leadership skills, developing a strong sense of responsibility, and gaining confidence in their abilities.

As we reflect on each milestone, we are reminded that guiding young minds is a journey. Here's to celebrating every stage and embracing the joy of discovery along the way!
